HB 159 “Multicultural Education Framework” is sponsored by Representatives Tomás E. Salazar, Christine Trujillo, and Derrick J. Lente.
It aligns the New Mexico Indian Education Act, Hispanic Education Act, and Bilingual Multicultural Act to establish a foundation in the public education system for supporting the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students across New Mexico.
We need you to contact Senators Mary Kay Papen and John Arthur Smith TODAY and ask that HB 159 either be heard in Senate Finance Committee immediately or moved directly to the Senate floor.
HB 159 saw bipartisan, unanimous support in House and passed unanimously in Senate Education Committee, but now it could never make it to the governor’s desk. We only have days left to make a transformative difference for our children, who can no longer wait for the education they have a right to.
What You Can Do
Call Senator John Arthur Smith and Senator Mary Kay Papen and ask that HB 159 be heard in Senate Finance Committee or scheduled directly on the Senate floor.
